The allegations were made public by Super Falcons forward Esther Okoronkwo, who claimed that money disappeared from the rooms of multiple players during their stay at the hotel before the team relocated to Rabat for the start of the championship.
According to Okoronkwo, she initially believed that she had misplaced part of her money before carrying out a careful check of her belongings.
After recounting her cash, she discovered that 700 US dollars had gone missing from her room.
The striker alleged that the money disappeared while hotel housekeeping staff had access to players’ rooms during routine cleaning.
She expressed disappointment over the incident, saying she never expected such an experience while representing her country at a major international tournament.
Okoronkwo also warned fellow travellers to remain vigilant whenever they stay in hotels, urging people to secure their valuables regardless of the destination.
The forward further claimed that she was not the only member of the Nigerian delegation affected.
According to her, midfielder Halimatu Ayinde reportedly lost 100 US dollars, while experienced defender Osinachi Ohale also discovered that 100 US dollars was missing from her belongings.
She added that teammate Joy Omewa allegedly lost 120 British pounds, while another member of the squad also reported losing an undisclosed amount of money.
The allegations quickly generated reactions on social media, where many Nigerian football fans expressed sympathy for the affected players and called for a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
Several supporters argued that athletes competing at international tournaments deserve secure accommodation that allows them to focus entirely on their performance without worrying about their personal belongings.
According to Okoronkwo, the affected players immediately informed hotel management after noticing the missing money.
