The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a woman suspected to be a spiritualist following the deaths of three children at her residence in Umuoduba Village, Ideani, in Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
Police said four children, aged between six and 15, were found at the suspect’s residence after officers responded to a distress report.
The victims were rushed to a hospital, where three were confirmed dead, while the fourth remains in critical condition.
Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspect is in custody and that the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has taken over the case for a comprehensive, intelligence-driven and evidence-based investigation.
According to the police, the bodies of the deceased have been deposited in a mortuary for autopsy, while investigators hope the surviving child will provide information that could help establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The command expressed condolences to the families of the victims and the Ideani community, urging residents to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information and allow the investigation to run its course.
