Tottenham Hotspur have reached a verbal agreement with Manchester City to sign Egypt international Omar Marmoush in a deal that could eventually become permanent for £50 million.

The proposed transfer is initially structured as a loan, with the purchase clause becoming mandatory if certain conditions are fulfilled. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Marmoush has already given the green light to Tottenham’s project, with his travel and medical examination scheduled for Monday.

The agreement represents a significant move for Tottenham as the club continues to reshape its attacking options. Rather than simply adding another squad player, Spurs are bringing in a forward with experience across the Egyptian, German and English games and a reputation for pace, direct running and versatility.

Marmoush can operate through the middle as a striker but is also capable of playing from either flank. His ability to carry the ball at speed, attack space behind defenders and create opportunities for teammates has been one of the defining characteristics of his rise.

The Egyptian’s football journey began in Cairo, where he developed through the Wadi Degla academy before making his senior debut for the club in 2016. He later moved to Germany as an 18 year old when Wolfsburg signed him in 2017.

His early years in Germany were a period of development rather than immediate stardom. Marmoush spent time with Wolfsburg II before progressing into the first team, and loan spells at St. Pauli and Stuttgart proved particularly important to his development.

At St. Pauli, he scored seven goals in 21 appearances, gaining valuable experience in senior football. He subsequently joined Stuttgart on loan, where he scored three times in 21 Bundesliga appearances. Those spells helped Marmoush develop the physical and tactical qualities that would eventually make him one of the Bundesliga’s most exciting attackers.

His breakthrough came after joining Eintracht Frankfurt in 2023.

At Frankfurt, Marmoush transformed from a promising talent into a genuine attacking threat. He scored 12 Bundesliga goals in his first season and then produced an extraordinary start to the following campaign, attracting attention from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Manchester City eventually won the race for his signature, bringing him to England in January 2025 on a four and a half year contract for a reported fee of around £59 million.

His arrival at City created enormous expectations. Marmoush immediately showed glimpses of his quality, including a memorable hat trick against Newcastle United in a 4 0 Premier League victory. He also scored a crucial FA Cup winner against Bournemouth later that season.

However, establishing himself as a regular starter at Manchester City proved difficult, particularly with fierce competition for attacking positions. His situation has now opened the door for a fresh challenge in north London.

Tottenham’s interest could provide Marmoush with exactly the opportunity he needs. At Spurs, he would be expected to play a significant role in the attack rather than competing primarily for limited minutes.

The proposed £50 million arrangement also gives Tottenham some protection. The club can initially assess Marmoush during the loan period, while the purchase obligation would be triggered if the agreed conditions are met. The precise conditions have not yet been publicly disclosed.

For Manchester City, the deal forms part of a wider reshaping of the squad under Enzo Maresca. City have been active in the transfer market and are making significant changes to their attacking and midfield options.

Marmoush’s departure would therefore represent another important step in that restructuring.

For Tottenham, meanwhile, the Egyptian could become an important piece of their attacking rebuild. His versatility means he can play as a central forward or from a wider position, giving the manager greater flexibility when selecting his frontline.

His Egyptian roots also add another interesting dimension to the move. Marmoush was born and raised in Cairo and has become an important figure for the Egyptian national team. He has also been compared with compatriot Mohamed Salah, although Marmoush has developed his own distinctive style rather than simply following the Liverpool star’s path.

The next major step will be Marmoush’s medical examination on Monday. If everything goes according to plan, the transfer could then move towards official confirmation.

For a player who began his professional journey at Wadi Degla before battling his way through Wolfsburg, St. Pauli and Stuttgart to reach Manchester City, a Tottenham move would represent another significant chapter in an already remarkable career.

Marmoush now has the opportunity to turn his Tottenham move into another breakthrough moment and prove that his best football is still ahead of him.
