De Peters has maintained that his criticism was directed at issues concerning governance and the welfare of Ebonyi residents, rather than a personal attack.

As of the time of this report, the allegations concerning the messages remain De Peters’ account of the incident, and there has been no independently verified evidence establishing the exact content or intent of the alleged threats. Sir One’s response to the accusation was also not immediately available.
