Veteran Nigerian actor Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, has extended his international screen presence with a guest appearance in Netflix’s new revival of the iconic American sitcom A Different World.
RMD makes his appearance in the seventh episode of the 10-part series, which premiered globally on Netflix on September 24, 2026. He plays Chukwu, the father of Kojo Achebe, a Nigerian-Ghanaian student and fashion entrepreneur at the fictional Hillman College.
In Episode 7, titled “Sometimes You Get The Culture… Sometimes The Culture Gets You,” Chukwu and his Ghanaian wife pay an unexpected visit to their son at college. Kojo, played by Nigerian actor Chibuikem Uche, had told his parents that he was studying engineering, while secretly pursuing his passion for fashion and building a business.
RMD’s appearance places another prominent Nigerian face in a major American production while also adding to the African representation within the new A Different World storyline.
Although he is not part of the series’ main cast, his appearance has attracted attention from Nigerian viewers following the release of the revival.
The new series returns audiences to Hillman College, the historically Black institution at the centre of the original A Different World, but follows a new generation of students. The story is led by Maleah Joi Moon as Deborah Wayne, the daughter of original characters Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert.
Several stars from the original series have also returned, including Jasmine Guy, Kadeem Hardison, Cree Summer and Darryl M. Bell, alongside the new cast.
The revival was created by Felicia Pride and runs for 10 episodes, with storylines covering college life, relationships, family expectations and the experiences of a new generation at Hillman.
For RMD, the appearance adds another international credit to a career that has spanned decades in Nigerian film and television, with the veteran actor now making a brief appearance in one of America’s most recognisable Black television franchises.
