Tom Cruise has revealed that he deliberately avoids using email and prefers production teams to communicate with him face-to-face, saying he values real human interaction over technology.
The Hollywood star explained that he does not want technology to create distance between himself and the people he works with. For Cruise, being physically present and having direct conversations are important parts of his creative process.
“Don’t lock me in a room. I want to be with the people. In the production meetings, don’t send me emails, we’re going to sit down, we’re going to communicate. I like face-to-face,” Cruise said.
The actor also spoke about the joy he gets from interacting with people and being part of different creative spaces, including music and film.
“First of all, it’s a beautiful thing to be able to walk into a room and people smile. It is a really beautiful thing because I want to create, I like all kinds of music and movies and to be able to play in those arenas,” he said.
According to Cruise, direct interaction allows him to experience a deeper connection with people rather than feeling separated from them by technology.
“So it really opens those doors to humanity in a way, and I like being in there,” he added.
The Mission: Impossible star’s approach reflects his preference for traditional, in-person communication, particularly when working on major film productions where decisions often require collaboration between actors, directors and production teams.
Cruise further described his ability to work with people and participate in creative projects as both a privilege and a responsibility.
“I look at it as an absolute privilege and responsibility,” he said.
His comments have drawn attention because email and digital messaging have become routine parts of modern film production and celebrity communication. Cruise’s preference for face-to-face conversations stands out in an industry where many interactions increasingly take place through screens.
For the actor, however, maintaining personal connections appears to be an important part of how he approaches both his career and his relationships with the people around him.
