Enzo Fernández has promised to give everything for Manchester City after receiving a warm welcome from the club’s supporters following his high-profile move from Chelsea.

The Argentina international said he already feels at home at the Etihad Stadium and has set his sights on helping the club compete for trophies throughout the 2026/27 season.

Fernández expressed his appreciation to City supporters for the reception he has received since completing his move, stressing that feeling comfortable at a new club can play an important role in a player’s confidence.

“I want to thank them for the welcome. I’m honestly feeling at home, and that is very important for a player’s confidence,” Fernández said in an interview published by Manchester City.

The midfielder then made a clear commitment to the club, promising to maintain maximum effort in training and matches as City pursue their targets for the campaign.

“I want to tell them that I’m going to give 100% every day, in every training session and every match, to help this club achieve all its objectives throughout the season, win many trophies together and enjoy it,” he added.

Fernández joined Manchester City from Chelsea on a five-year contract in one of the biggest transfers of the 2026 summer window. The deal was reported at £125 million, matching the British transfer record established by Liverpool’s signing of Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.

Manchester City confirmed that Fernández’s contract will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2031. The 25-year-old arrived with considerable experience at both club and international level, having previously played for River Plate, Defensa y Justicia, Benfica and Chelsea.

His time at Chelsea produced 170 appearances and 31 goals, according to the London club, while he also helped the team win the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup in 2025.

Fernández also arrives at City as a World Cup and Copa América winner with Argentina. He was part of the Argentina team that won the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the 2024 Copa América before featuring in another World Cup final in 2026.

The move also reunites Fernández with Enzo Maresca, who previously worked with the midfielder at Chelsea and is now Manchester City’s manager. Fernández has spoken positively about the relationship, while also revealing that former City forward Julián Álvarez, his Argentina teammate and friend, helped him understand more about the club before his arrival.

Fernández said Álvarez told him about what Manchester City represented and described that information as an important factor in helping him understand his new surroundings.

The midfielder has also highlighted the quality within City’s squad and believes the team has the ingredients to achieve significant success.

“Without a doubt, there’s a great squad here at the club, and surely there will be a lot of success together. We need to enjoy it because that’s the most important thing and always stay together and united,” Fernández said.

His arrival adds another high-level midfield option to a Manchester City side undergoing significant changes following the end of Pep Guardiola’s long tenure. The club has invested heavily in reshaping its squad, with Fernández becoming one of the headline additions during the summer transfer window.

For Fernández, however, the immediate priority is not the size of his transfer fee but his contribution on the pitch.

His message to the supporters was built around commitment, teamwork and trophies. Rather than setting a personal target, the Argentine midfielder focused on helping City achieve its collective objectives and sharing the success with the club’s supporters.

That expectation will bring considerable attention, particularly given the record-equalling fee involved in his transfer. Fernández will be expected to justify the investment through his performances, while adapting to a new midfield structure and a new chapter of his Premier League career.

For now, the message from the Argentine is straightforward: he feels welcomed, he feels at home, and he wants to repay that support with maximum effort.

With a five-year contract ahead of him, Fernández has plenty of time to establish himself at Manchester City. His first major challenge will be turning his words into consistent performances as the club targets more silverware during the new campaign.
