Social media activist VeryDarkMan has alleged that a man was deceived into paying ₦96 million after an Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) of the Nigeria Customs Service allegedly offered him eight containers said to be available for auction at the Lagos Port.

According to VeryDarkMan, the man was informed that each container was being offered for ₦12 million, bringing the total cost for the eight containers to ₦96 million.

He claimed the man did not immediately make the payment. Instead, he reportedly requested to meet the ACG allegedly in charge of the auction before proceeding with the transaction.

VeryDarkMan said the request was granted, prompting the man to travel to Abuja, where he allegedly met the ACG in his office at the Nigeria Customs Service headquarters.

After the meeting, the man reportedly proceeded with the payment, believing the transaction was genuine and that the containers were legitimately available for auction.

However, VeryDarkMan alleged that the man later discovered that the containers he had paid for did not exist.

“It’s crazy how it turned out to be a scam. After everything, he found out that the whole thing did not exist,” VeryDarkMan said while recounting the alleged incident.

He further claimed that the only containers connected to the matter were containers containing tramadol.

The allegation raises questions about how individuals can verify the authenticity of purported government auctions and the identities of officials presenting themselves as authorized representatives.

VeryDarkMan did not provide details in the statement about when the alleged transaction took place, the identity of the ACG involved, whether the ₦96 million was recovered, or whether a formal complaint had been filed with the Nigeria Customs Service or law-enforcement authorities.

The allegations have not been independently established, and no response from the Nigeria Customs Service or the officer allegedly involved was included in VeryDarkMan’s account.

The Nigeria Customs Service regularly conducts official auctions under established procedures, making verification through authorized channels important for anyone considering such transactions.
