A 55-year-old driver escaped without injury after a moving train collided with his Honda car at the PWD railway crossing in Lagos on Friday, October 9, 2026.

The collision left the vehicle extensively damaged and caused severe traffic congestion around the area, even after officials cleared the railway track.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident, saying the train was travelling towards Agege when it struck the Honda car with registration number EKY 902 JT.

In a statement signed by its Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, LASTMA described the vehicle as virtually a complete write-off. However, the driver escaped without any reported injury, and officials recorded no casualties at the scene.
An earlier traffic update issued at 7:20am said onlookers had pushed the damaged car away from the tracks while LASTMA officers managed traffic and emergency responders attended to the incident.

LASTMA operatives and security personnel subsequently rescued the driver and coordinated the removal of the wrecked vehicle from the railway line.
According to the agency, their prompt response cleared the obstruction and allowed the train to continue its journey towards Agege.
However, traffic congestion persisted around the PWD axis despite the successful removal of the car. LASTMA said vehicular movement remained severely restricted in the area.
The damaged vehicle was later handed over to security personnel to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the personnel involved in the response, stressing the importance of quick intervention and cooperation during transport emergencies.
He also urged motorists to exercise caution when approaching railway crossings.
Bakare-Oki warned drivers against attempting to cross the tracks when a train is approaching or already in motion.
LASTMA reiterated that protecting human life must remain the priority in all road-use decisions. The agency appealed to motorists and other road users to obey traffic and railway safety regulations to prevent avoidable accidents.
