The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has predicted that Northern Nigeria will deliver more than 70 per cent of its votes to President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Yilwatda made the prediction on Saturday, October 17, during the commissioning of the Arewa for Asiwaju (A4A) secretariat in Abuja, where he urged residents of the region to support Tinubu’s re-election bid.
He cited infrastructure projects, government appointments, healthcare initiatives and education programmes as reasons the North should back the president for a second term.
Yilwatda also praised Tinubu for what he described as an inclusive administration that brings together Nigerians across religious and ethnic groups. He called for the re-election of the Tinubu-Shettima ticket.
The APC chairman highlighted several road projects across Northern Nigeria, including the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano route and roads linking Kano and Maiduguri.
He also referenced the Trans-Saharan Super Highway and routes connecting Ilorin, Niger, Kebbi, Sokoto and Illela, arguing that the projects demonstrated the administration’s commitment to infrastructure development across the region.
Yilwatda further cited the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano gas pipeline, railway projects, irrigation dams and healthcare interventions as evidence of the government’s efforts.
He also mentioned the Nigerian Education Loan Fund as a programme expected to expand access to higher education.
According to him, if APC supporters secured victories in their respective hometowns and polling units, Tinubu could receive more than 70 per cent of the votes cast in the North.
Former Kebbi State Governor and Director-General of Arewa for Asiwaju, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, also called for Tinubu’s re-election, citing the administration’s record in infrastructure, education, social investment and security.
Abubakar said the student loan initiative had created opportunities for young Nigerians who might otherwise struggle to afford university education.
On security, he claimed that conditions had improved in some parts of the North, with residents returning to farms and travelling on roads they had previously feared to use. He acknowledged, however, that significant challenges remained.
The A4A director-general said the group would mobilise support for Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima across the region through governors, legislators, traditional institutions and youth groups.
He added that the campaign would reach communities at the state, local government, ward and polling-unit levels.
Abubakar also described the newly commissioned campaign headquarters as a three-block complex of three-storey buildings equipped with offices, a conference room and a situation room for coordinating campaign activities.
He said the group would engage residents in markets, farms, campuses, mosques and churches to explain the administration’s achievements and listen to public concerns.
The prediction of more than 70 per cent support represents the APC chairman’s political forecast ahead of the 2027 election, rather than an established voting outcome.
