I will give SpaceX share to every kid in America – Elon Musk

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has announced plans to give every child in the United States a share in his space exploration company, SpaceX, from next year.

Musk made the announcement on Monday, October 19, 2026, in a post on X, although he did not explain how the proposed giveaway would work or provide details about eligibility.

“Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America,” he wrote.

“This will be the first of many,” Musk added.

The announcement has raised questions about how the plan would be implemented, particularly given the number of children who could benefit.

Data from the US Census Bureau showed that the United States had approximately 73 million children under the age of 18 in 2024.

Musk owns about 38 per cent of SpaceX, according to Forbes.

However, he has yet to explain whether the proposed shares would be transferred directly to the children, held in trust or distributed through another arrangement.

The billionaire also did not disclose the estimated value of the shares or whether the plan would require regulatory approval.

The announcement comes weeks after US President Donald Trump promised to give every American adult $5,000 if Republicans retain control of Congress in the November midterm elections.

However, Musk’s proposal differs from Trump’s pledge because it involves shares in a private company rather than a direct cash payment.

Neither announcement, as reported, provides enough detail to establish how the proposed distributions would be funded or implemented.

Musk’s proposed giveaway comes as SpaceX continues to expand its role in the commercial space industry.

According to the report, the company raised $85.7 billion in an initial public offering in June, setting a record for the largest IPO in history.

Its Starship megarocket also reached orbit for the first time in September, marking a major milestone for the spacecraft central to Musk’s ambition to send humans to Mars.

The company has not provided further details on how the proposed shares would be distributed to American children.
