Nollywood actor Emeka Ike has expressed disappointment after the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed his N10 billion fundamental human rights suit against Lere Olayinka, a senior aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Reacting to the judgment, Ike questioned the meaning of fundamental human rights, arguing that people could suffer alleged rights violations, online bullying and public embarrassment without securing justice in court.

“It’s even crazy that your right will be violated and the judge will tell you it’s not a fundamental human right. Then what is a fundamental human right? The embarrassment, the bullying online,” he said.

The actor’s reaction followed a judgment delivered on Wednesday by Justice Salim Ibrahim, who upheld preliminary objections filed by the respondents.

The judge ruled that the suit was incompetent and improperly constituted, leading to its dismissal.

Ike had sought N10 billion in damages over alleged violations of his fundamental human rights.

However, the court’s decision did not grant the reliefs he sought, prompting his public expression of disappointment over the outcome.

The case involved Olayinka, a Senior Special Assistant to Wike, and INEC. The report did not provide further details of the specific allegations against the respondents or indicate whether Ike plans to challenge the ruling.
