UCL: Man Utd Don’t Need to Save Carrick’s Job — Bruno Fernandes on Roma Win

MANCHESTER, ENGLAND — Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has insisted the players are not trying to save manager Michael Carrick’s job.

Fernandes spoke after their 3-2 comeback win against Roma in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The victory was United’s first win in 10 fixtures across all competitions. It provided a much-needed boost for the club amid a difficult run of form.

Speculation Over Carrick’s Future

There has been serious speculation that Carrick has been given two matches to save his job before the Roma match.

The win has eased some of the pressure on the manager. But Fernandes insisted the players were not motivated by a desire to protect their coach.

“We don’t need to save anyone’s job. The club needed that win, the players needed that win,” Fernandes said.

“We have been working so hard to get out of this situation altogether.”

Addressing the Speculation

Fernandes also addressed the speculation surrounding his relationship with the manager.

He said there had been “a lot of lies” in the media about what had happened between them. He said they had cleared the air.

“A lot of lies around many things that have happened between the manager and me; we have cleared the air. After that, the manager took a decision to be on the bench because I’m not performing,” he said.

Benching Was a Decision, Not Punishment

Fernandes said everyone thought his benching was a punishment for his words. But he said it was simply a decision made by the manager.

“If it was, it was right. The manager makes the decisions. It doesn’t change the belief I have of the manager and the staff and every player in this club. It doesn’t change my aim to win every game that I have ahead of me,” he added.

The win is a significant result for Manchester United. It ends a difficult run of form and provides a platform for the team to build on.

For Carrick, the victory will ease some of the immediate pressure. But the club’s hierarchy will be monitoring the situation closely.

What Happens Next

Manchester United will return to Premier League action this weekend. They will be hoping to build on the momentum from the Roma win.

For now, the focus is on the next game. The coming weeks will reveal whether United can turn their season around.
