The National Rescue Movement (NRM) has formally distanced itself from the leadership claims of Edozie Njoku.

The party described his actions as illegal and a serious threat to its integrity.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) gathered that the NRM also announced the suspension of its National Chairman, Isaac Udeh, for allegedly organizing a fraudulent convention aimed at consolidating power through illegitimate means.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the NRM condemned the actions of both Njoku and Udeh.

It described their alleged “Emergency Convention” as a sham involving individuals with no legitimate ties to the party.

The party stressed that the event was neither authorized by its National Executive Committee (NEC) nor recognized by any legitimate party structures.

“The National Rescue Movement unequivocally rejects the leadership of Edozie Njoku,” read the statement from the NRM.

“His actions, in collaboration with Isaac Udeh, have caused unnecessary divisions within the party.

These attempts to hijack the party through fraudulent means are unacceptable.”

The party’s Acting National Chairman, Obidike Okolo, revealed that the NRM had been aware of plans by Njoku and Udeh to seize control of the party.

He noted that the purported convention marked a new low in their efforts.

According to Okolo, the NEC, which consists of duly elected officers, had never authorized such a gathering.

He emphasized that any action outside the proper party framework was null and void.

Okolo highlighted that Udeh’s decision to convene an unapproved convention had led to his immediate suspension from the position of National Chairman.

“Udeh’s actions demonstrate a deliberate effort to undermine the democratic structures of the NRM,” he stated.

The party also criticized the role of Iliyasu Adamu, who recently declared himself the leader of a northern caucus within the NRM and pledged allegiance to Njoku.

According to the party’s statement, Adamu was expelled from the NRM in 2022 and no longer holds any position within the party.

Furthermore, the so-called northern caucus was dismissed as a fabrication created to support Njoku’s illegitimate claims.

“The National Rescue Movement will not allow its integrity to be tarnished by individuals seeking to exploit its name,” Okolo reiterated.

“We remain focused on upholding the values of transparency, justice, and democracy, and will take decisive steps to preserve our unity and integrity.”

The NRM leadership expressed its unwavering commitment to fostering unity among its members and rebuilding the party ahead of future political challenges.

Party officials urged members to disregard misleading claims and reaffirm their loyalty to the party’s legitimate leadership.

“The entire leadership of NRM remains intact, and we are working together to strengthen the party and uphold its democratic principles,” the statement added.

“Any attempts to subvert our structures will be met with swift and decisive action.”

In addressing the crisis, the NRM called for members in leadership positions to focus on the party’s collective vision and work toward the common good.

The statement emphasized the need to reject divisive tactics and manipulation.

The party also vowed to pursue legal action against any individual found guilty of violating its constitution or attempting to undermine its integrity.

“We will ensure that anyone engaging in unconstitutional actions is held accountable,” Okolo affirmed.

The NRM concluded by reaffirming its commitment to transparency and justice.

It urged its members to remain united as the party continues to navigate political challenges.

“We stand firm in our dedication to the progress and unity of the National Rescue Movement,” the statement concluded.

With this bold stance, the NRM aims to fortify its position as a party built on the principles of democracy and accountability.
