In a powerful video by Middle East Eye, Ali Sabih shares an emotional story of love, endurance, and an unbroken promise.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) gathered that after spending 25 years in an Israeli prison, Sabih was finally freed as part of a ceasefire exchange deal between Israel and Palestine.

Through years of suffering, he held onto a single object that symbolized his devotion—his wife’s ring.

“I kept it safe for 30 years, 25 of which they tried to break me, beat me, just to take this ring away,” Sabih recalls.

“But I held onto it.

I insisted on giving it back to her.”

For Sabih, his release is more than just freedom; it is the long-awaited chance to honor the love and sacrifice of his wife.

While he endured the harsh conditions of prison, she remained steadfast, navigating life’s challenges alone.

“I was imprisoned for 25 years, and for 25 years, she waited, cooking, kneading, and washing,” Sabih says, his voice filled with gratitude.

“So today, for the next 25 years, I will wash, cook, knead, and bake.”

His words reflect a deep commitment to making up for lost time.

Throughout his imprisonment, Sabih’s wife remained a pillar of strength, raising their children and keeping their home together.

She lived through the loneliness, uncertainty, and struggles of a life without him, never knowing if or when he would return.

For Sabih, her unwavering patience and endurance are beyond measure.

Now that he is free, he sees even the simplest household chores as acts of devotion—small but meaningful ways to repay the love she showed him during his absence.

Sabih’s release marks not just the return of a man to his family but also the return of a father and husband whose absence shaped the lives of those he left behind.

His children grew up without him.

His wife spent years alone, yet their bond survived.

Sabih knows that no amount of time can truly make up for what was lost, but he is determined to dedicate himself to his family’s happiness.

His story resonates beyond his personal experience.

It is a reflection of the countless families separated by war and imprisonment, enduring years of waiting and longing.

Sabih’s journey is one of resilience, sacrifice, and love that refused to fade despite overwhelming hardship.

As he steps into his new life, his commitment is clear: to cherish every moment, to give back what was taken from him, and to honor the woman who never gave up on him.
