The senator representing Ondo South Senatorial District, Jimoh Ibrahim, has revealed that former President Muhammadu Buhari did not support President Bola Tinubu during the 2022 All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary election.

Ibrahim made this statement during an interview with Channels TV, Diaspora digital media (DDM) reported.

He was responding to remarks by former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

Amaechi recently said that the opposition is wasting their time if they believe Tinubu will hand over power to them.

Amaechi made the statement during a two-day National Conference on Strengthening Democracy in Nigeria.

Reflecting on the events leading up to the APC primaries, Ibrahim recalled that there were widespread speculations that Amaechi was the likely winner of the party’s presidential ticket.

However, the senator raised questions about the actual votes Amaechi received.

He suggested that the expected outcome did not materialize as anticipated.

Despite the high expectations for Amaechi, it was Tinubu who emerged victorious in the primaries.

Ibrahim stated that Tinubu secured the win by leveraging data science and strategic planning.

Addressing Buhari’s role in the election, Ibrahim stated, “Did Buhari support Tinubu at the primaries? I’m telling you clearly that he didn’t support him.”

Ibrahim clarified that a lack of support does not necessarily equate to betrayal.

He emphasized that it might simply signify a difference in personal preference or political alignment.

Ibrahim pointed out, “Not supporting somebody doesn’t mean betrayal, it might mean you don’t like his face.”

The key fact, according to Ibrahim, is indisputable.

The senator’s comments add to the ongoing debate surrounding the dynamics within the APC and the internal support.

The issue of Buhari’s stance has been a point of contention for some time.

Many party supporters speculated that the former president’s allegiance to certain candidates could influence the outcome of the election.

In response to Amaechi’s comments about Tinubu’s leadership, Ibrahim emphasized that the primaries’ results were determined by multiple factors.

Ibrahim stressed that Tinubu’s political acumen and strategic use of technology played a significant role in his success.

As political discussions continue within the APC, the issue of Buhari’s involvement in the 2022 primaries remains a significant point of discussion among key figures.
