US Congressman Green announces impeachment push over Gaza comments
DDM News

US Congressman Al Green has revealed his plans to file articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump, citing the president’s recent remarks about Gaza as the primary catalyst for his actions.
In a passionate speech on the House floor, Green condemned Trump’s statements, declaring that “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere, and injustice in Gaza is a threat to justice in the United States of America.”
Green’s announcement follows Trump’s controversial proposal during a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Trump suggested that the U.S. might take control of Gaza and facilitate the relocation of its Palestinian population.
Referring to Gaza as a “demolition site,” Trump claimed, “the only reason the Palestinians want to go back to Gaza is they have no alternative.”
His comments have sparked widespread condemnation, with many viewing them as advocating ethnic cleansing, drawing criticism from Democrats and human rights organizations alike.
In his speech, Green emphasized that Trump’s remarks represented a grave disrespect for human rights and international law.
“Ethnic cleansing in Gaza is not a joke, especially when it emanates from the president of the United States,” Green said.
He condemned both Trump and Netanyahu for their roles in promoting such a proposal, stressing that it not only harmed Gaza but also threatened the moral fabric of the United States.
Green further stated that such proposals directly undermined justice, both abroad in Gaza and within the U.S.
This move by Green is not his first criticism of Trump, as the congressman has been a vocal opponent since the beginning of the Trump presidency.
However, his latest decision to pursue impeachment highlights his continued determination to hold the president accountable for actions he believes are unjust.
Despite Green’s outspoken calls for impeachment, Democratic leaders have shown reluctance to support such a measure.
Representative Pete Aguilar, chair of the House Democratic Caucus, stated that impeachment is “not a focus of the caucus.”
In response to the controversy, Republican lawmakers have offered mixed reactions.
While some expressed surprise at Trump’s comments, others defended the proposal as a necessary step to ensure regional stability.
House Speaker Mike Johnson described Trump’s suggestion as “a bold move” but did not commit to any specific military actions regarding Gaza.
As the situation continues to unfold, the debate over Gaza and Trump’s comments is likely to intensify, with Green’s impeachment push adding a new dimension to the ongoing political discourse.
