Washington, D.C. – President Donald Trump has announced plans to reverse Joe Biden’s paper straw policy.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) reports that Trump made this known in a statement on Truth Social on Friday.

He described Biden’s paper straw policy as “ridiculous and ineffective.”

The executive order, set to be signed next week, will restore plastic straws in federal establishments.

Trump said his decision would eliminate the inconvenience caused by the paper straw policy.

“I will be signing an executive order next week ending the ridiculous Biden push for paper straws,” Trump said.

The paper straw policy was introduced in 2022 as part of Biden’s environmental plan.

It aimed to phase out single-use plastics from federal lands by 2032.

The policy required national parks and government buildings to use eco-friendly alternatives.

Environmentalists supported the paper straw policy, arguing it would reduce plastic waste and pollution.

Critics, including Trump, claimed the policy inconvenienced consumers without solving major environmental problems.

Supporters of the policy argued that plastic waste poses a serious threat to marine life and ecosystems.

Plastic pollution clogs waterways, endangers wildlife, and contributes to environmental degradation.

Paper straws were introduced as an alternative to plastic, which takes hundreds of years to decompose.

Biden’s administration believed that eliminating plastic straws would encourage sustainable practices across the country.

However, many consumers complained that paper straws became soggy and unusable too quickly.

Since taking office on January 20, 2025, Trump has reversed multiple Biden-era policies.

The paper straw policy is among the latest to be scrapped.

This move aligns with Trump’s broader push to eliminate restrictive environmental regulations.

Supporters of plastic straws argue they are more durable and consumer-friendly.

They claim that forcing people to use paper straws created unnecessary frustration.

Some businesses and fast-food chains had already switched to paper straws before Biden’s policy.

Many companies did so voluntarily to promote environmental responsibility.

Despite this, others resisted the transition, citing high costs and customer dissatisfaction.

Environmentalists warn that revoking the paper straw policy will increase plastic pollution.

They argue that plastic waste is one of the biggest environmental challenges of modern times.

Plastic straws are just one component of a much larger issue of plastic dependency.

Critics say Trump’s move prioritizes convenience over long-term sustainability.

Federal agencies will now adjust procurement policies to allow plastic straws again.

Government-run facilities will no longer be required to follow Biden’s restrictions.

Some states and private businesses may continue using paper straws despite Trump’s decision.

Many cities have local regulations that restrict single-use plastics.

Environmental groups have vowed to challenge Trump’s reversal of the paper straw policy.

They believe the move is a step backward in the fight against pollution.

Trump’s administration signals a shift away from restrictive environmental policies toward economic and consumer interests.

The debate over plastic and paper straws is part of a broader discussion on environmental responsibility.

Trump’s decision will likely spark further controversy among policymakers, businesses, and environmental advocates.
