GOMBE—The North East Leadership Summit took place at Gombe International Hotel on February 27, 2025.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) gathered that the event brought together key stakeholders, community leaders, and activists from across the region.

The summit focused on the theme “Fundamental Rights of a Nigerian Citizen.”

Hon. Joseph Enan Maigari, the chairman of the Central Organizing and Planning Committee, delivered the welcoming address.

He emphasized that the summit was not just a discussion but a call for justice and accountability.

For years, the North East has suffered from insecurity, displacement, and economic hardship.

The people of the region have endured insurgency, banditry, and military operations.

Many communities remain under threat, with little government intervention to provide security.

Thousands of families have been displaced, forced to live in internally displaced persons (IDP) camps.

Access to basic services such as healthcare, education, and clean water remains inadequate.

The summit served as a platform to demand solutions to these pressing challenges.

A history of struggles and resilience

The North East has long been a region of resilience despite facing immense difficulties.

For over a decade, insurgent attacks have destroyed homes and disrupted livelihoods.

Children in the region have lost access to quality education due to insecurity.

Many schools have been shut down, leaving thousands of students without formal education.

Unemployment remains a major challenge, especially among the youth population.

Economic opportunities are scarce, forcing many young people into crime or migration.

Despite these challenges, the people of the North East continue to push for progress.

The Obidient Movement has emerged as a significant force advocating for change in Nigeria.

This movement promotes good governance, transparency, and accountability at all levels.

The rise of His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi, has strengthened the movement’s influence.

His leadership represents hope for millions of Nigerians seeking a better future.

A call for action on fundamental rights

Hon. Maigari delivered a passionate speech on the state of fundamental rights in Nigeria.

He questioned why citizens in the North East must fight for rights that should be guaranteed.

The right to life and security remains a major concern in the region.

Many communities live under constant threat with minimal government protection.

Insecurity has made it difficult for businesses to thrive and economies to grow.

Access to quality healthcare remains a privilege rather than a basic right.

Many hospitals lack essential medical equipment and qualified personnel.

Pregnant women and children suffer the most from inadequate healthcare services.

The education sector in the North East has been heavily affected by violence.

Hon. Maigari pointed out that education is the key to national development.

However, thousands of children in the North East have been denied this opportunity.

Poverty, displacement, and conflict have disrupted the education of many young Nigerians.

Economic empowerment is another major issue affecting the region.

Many young people are unemployed and have little hope for a stable future.

Without access to meaningful economic opportunities, poverty will continue to grow.

The role of the Obidient Movement in national reformation

The Obidient Movement has consistently advocated for a Nigeria that works for all citizens.

Its principles align with the aspirations of many people in the North East.

The movement calls for accountability, fairness, and people-focused leadership.

Dr. Tanko Yunusa has played a crucial role in strengthening the movement.

Under his leadership, the Obidient Movement has expanded its reach and impact.

The movement continues to challenge the existing system and demand better governance.

At the summit, many participants expressed strong support for Peter Obi’s leadership.

They believe his vision for Nigeria aligns with the needs of the North East.

Hon. Maigari emphasized that this movement is not just about politics.

It is about ensuring that every Nigerian enjoys fundamental rights and opportunities.
