INEC CONFIRMS UMEH, EX-PDP CHAIR, NWOFOR, 11 OTHERS CLEARED FOR RERUN POLL *says March 5 date sacrosanct
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Awka has confirmed that no fewer that thirteen(13) candidates of equal number of political parties would be slugging it out in the March 5,2016 Anambra Central senatorial rerun poll.
This indication was contrary to an erroneous picture painted for the unsuspecting public all along that it was going to be a three-legged contest by The All Progressives Grand Alliance(APGA) candidate and former national chairman- Chief Victor Umeh, the All Progressives Congress(APC)-Sharon Ikeazor and perhaps the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP).
The state Resident Electoral Commissioner(REC) Dr Lawrence Azubuike made the clarification when party chiefs called at his office.
He listed some of the names to include Mr Chuma Nwofor, a former state chairman of the PDP, but was running under the Labour Party(LP), Christopher Ekweozor of the Mega Progressives Peoples Party(MPPP) and Oye Mercy Uche of the Accord Party amongst others.
Dr Azubike who made this known was reacting to a questions from some of the leaders who expressed anger that it was as if the Commission cleared the way for Umeh to be the sole candidate in the election.
He stated that they were 15 candidates that participated for the position on March 28, and with the candidates of the PDP and APC out, the APGA candidate will be faced with 12 others.
