Anambra APC Expels 30 Members For Dragging Party To Court

AWKA, NIGERIA — The All Progressives Congress in Anambra State has expelled 30 members accused of taking the party to court in violation of internal party regulations and constitutional procedures.

Party officials said the affected members were sanctioned after allegedly instituting legal action against the party without first exhausting internal dispute resolution mechanisms.

The state chapter of the APC maintained that the decision was reached following deliberations by party leaders and disciplinary structures.

According to party officials, the action became necessary to preserve discipline, unity, and organizational stability within the party ahead of future political activities.

The leadership argued that dragging the party into prolonged legal disputes could damage its internal cohesion and electoral preparations.

Some officials also claimed that members who institute court actions against the party risk disqualification from participating in internal primary elections and other party activities.

The development has intensified political tensions within the Anambra APC as internal disagreements continue to shape alignments and rivalries within the state chapter.

Political observers say internal crises and factional disputes remain recurring challenges for many Nigerian political parties, especially ahead of elections.

Supporters of the disciplinary action insist that political parties must enforce internal rules to maintain order and prevent unnecessary public disputes.

Critics, however, argue that party members should retain the constitutional right to seek legal redress whenever internal processes appear unfair or compromised.

Analysts note that court cases involving party primaries, candidate selection, and leadership disputes have become common features of Nigeria’s political system.

Legal battles within parties often influence candidate emergence, electoral preparations, and broader political alliances.

The APC in Anambra has experienced several internal disagreements in recent years, particularly surrounding leadership positions and electoral strategies.

Some political stakeholders fear that continued internal divisions could weaken the party’s chances in future elections within the state.

Party leaders, however, insist that the latest disciplinary measures are aimed at strengthening internal unity and enforcing loyalty among members.

Observers believe the expulsions could trigger further political realignments, including defections and renewed factional tensions.

The affected members had not publicly responded in detail to the expulsions at the time of reporting.

Political analysts say the dispute once again highlights the fragile nature of party cohesion in Nigeria’s evolving democratic environment.

They also note that internal democracy and conflict management remain major issues confronting many political organizations across the country.

Attention now shifts to whether the expelled members will challenge the decision legally or pursue alternative political platforms ahead of future elections.
