Rivers State: Governor Fubara convenes “crucial meeting” with Wike-backed Assembly members

Rivers State Governor Siminialayi Fubara has extended an official invitation to the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, and other lawmakers.
The high-stakes meeting will hold at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Monday.
The invitation, issued by the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, marks a pivotal moment in the strained relationship between Fubara and the Assembly members backed by his estranged godfather, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike.
Notably, this is the first time Governor Fubara has formally addressed Amaewhule as the Speaker of the Assembly.
Dated March 7, 2025, the invitation references a letter from the governor dated March 5, in which he acknowledged the Supreme Court’s recent judgment on a matter concerning the state.
The governor’s letter stated, “And he has, therefore, directed to invite you and your colleagues, the Honourable members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, to a meeting.”
The meeting, scheduled for Monday, March 10, 2025, at 10 a.m., will address several critical issues, including providing a suitable space for the Assembly’s sittings, settling outstanding remuneration and allowances, presenting the state budget, and discussing other matters vital to the state’s progress.
This meeting is seen as a crucial step toward resolving lingering disputes and fostering collaboration between the two arms of government.
It could be recalled that the Supreme Court recently ordered the reinstatement of the Amaewhule-led faction of the Assembly as the bonafide state legislature.
The court also sacked all elected Local Government chairmen as well as ordered the stoppage of all federal allocations accrued to the state.
