Akwa Ibom: Lady killed by boyfriend to be buried, March 22

March 22, 2025 has been fixed as date for the burial of Emem Monday Effanga, 39, who was allegedly by his 32 year old male friend, Ndifreke Isaiah Nelson, in her Uyo residence in Akwa Ibom State.

The funeral service will hold at UCC Primary School, Ikot Akpan Ishiet, ONNA Local Government Area.

The suspect has since been arrested and the deceased’s mobile phone recovered from her.

The police arrested Nelson during a church service in Uyo, following intelligence reports.

According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, Effanga was found dead in her apartment under suspicious circumstances in February 2025.

Investigations revealed visible marks of violence on her face and neck, indicating she had been strangled and beaten.

Nelson confessed to killing Effanga after she refused to let him use her phone to take birthday photos for social media. He allegedly strangled her and struck her head against the floor before fleeing with her mobile device.

The stolen phone was recovered from Nelson at the time of his arrest.

A post-mortem examination has confirmed the cause of death, and Nelson is set to be charged in court.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, has assured that justice will be served and reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling domestic violence and criminal activities.
