The Olotu and Rowland Ekuogbe Akpodiete Foundation (OERAF) on April 8, 2025, held a memorial lecture on conflict resolution and community security in Nigeria.
According to Diaspora digital media (DDM), the event was held in honour of the late Chief Ekuogbe Rowland Akpodiete, Ph.D., born April 4, 1924, and passed away on April 9, 1995.
Held at the popular Ughelli Kingdom Hall, the lecture featured brilliant security experts and government functionaries.
In his brief opening speech, the Executive Director of OERAF, SPY CSP Olotu Otemu Akpodiete, Ph.D. (JP), said the foundation has consistently impacted lives and served communities over the years.
He described his late grandfather as a distinguished community leader and spokesperson (Otota) of the great Ughelli Kingdom until his passing.
“As we celebrate his remembrance, I decided to use the opportunity to impact more lives,” he added.
The guest speaker, Mr. Sylvester Obose, CSS, MNIIS, gave an in-depth presentation on the theme.
According to him, the lecture focused on the definition, causes, and dynamics of conflict in society.
He said the goal was to deepen participants’ understanding of conflict studies and conflict prevention strategies.
Mr. Obose emphasized that the safety and security of communities remain of utmost importance.
“By implementing the measures presented today, everyone stands a better chance of ensuring a safe and secure community,” he concluded.
Another speaker, Dr. Wilton T. Harry, MIS, CPP, DFCSI, FNIS, also addressed the topic during the security session.
He stressed that the protection of lives and properties is a collective responsibility.
During the event, the OERAF Executive Director also facilitated enrollment of several attendees into the Delta State Contributory Health Insurance Scheme.
Among the dignitaries present were Olorogun Major Patrick A. Egone (Rtd), member of the Delta State Advisory Council; Chief Emmanuel Ogobene, also of the Delta State Advisory Council; and Mr. Edwin Asima from the Local Government Service Commission, Ughelli North.
Others included Chief Mrs. Grace Akpodiete, Deaconess Florence Enughwure, and Barrister Agboka Akpodiete-Omale.
Highlights of the event included a raffle draw for community participants and members of the Ughelli Kingdom VGN.
Erhuwarien Community in Ughelli South LGA and Ekredjebo Community in Ughelli North LGA emerged winners of security communication gadgets.
