Nigerian Air Force Implements Group Personal Accident Insurance Policy for Personnel

Published

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has given approval for the implementation of a Group Personal Accident Insurance Policy (GPAIP) to cover all Nigerian Air Force (NAF) personnel. This initiative aligns with the CAS’s Command Philosophy, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a highly motivated force through enhanced welfare and infrastructural renewal.

In a statement released by the Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF, AVM Edward Gabkwet, it was revealed that while various insurance policies administered by the Ministry of Defence and NAF Investment Ltd. already cover NAF personnel, they may not comprehensively address certain hazards and challenges encountered in the line of duty.

The decision to introduce a specialized insurance scheme was driven by the need to review and enhance existing policies to adequately address hazards and unique challenges faced by NAF personnel during their careers.

Air Marshal Abubakar emphasized that the new insurance policy would serve as an incentive for personnel to give their best, providing assurance of adequate care in the event of disability or death during military operations or accidents. He stressed that the welfare of NAF personnel remained crucial to the realization of his command philosophy, contributing significantly to morale and professionalism.

Given the diverse hazards faced by personnel during military operations, the CAS highlighted the importance of continuously reviewing existing policies to cater for the well-being of personnel. The contract for the Group Personal Accident Insurance Policy has been awarded to KBC Insurance Brokers Limited.

The GPAIP is designed to provide compensation for bodily injuries, death, disablement, and payment of medical expenses caused by accidental, external, violent, and visible means. Additionally, the scheme covers families of personnel who may lose their lives during operations, providing salary reimbursement for injured personnel during hospitalization.

The implementation of the GPAIP reflects the NAF’s commitment to ensuring the comprehensive well-being and care of its personnel in the face of the challenges inherent in military service
