Primate Ayodele urges military chiefs to resign amid worsening insecurity in Nigeria

The security crisis in Nigeria continues to escalate, prompting fresh criticism from religious leaders and concerned citizens nationwide.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that Primate Elijah Ayodele, leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, has urged military service chiefs to resign over their inefficiency.

He stressed that if the service chiefs cannot tackle the current insecurity, they should vacate their positions immediately.

Ayodele emphasized the need for strong leadership to address persistent violence and insurgency in the country.

He noted that Nigeria needs military leaders who are active, committed, and willing to confront security challenges head-on.

His comments followed a deadly attack on a military base in Borno State, carried out by Boko Haram insurgents.

The attack targeted the 153 Task Force Battalion’s Forward Operation Base in Marte Local Government Area.

It occurred in the early hours of Monday and led to the deaths and displacement of several Nigerian soldiers.

Ayodele condemned the attack and blamed the Chief of Army Staff for failing to provide adequate military leadership and response.

He described the army chief as inactive and called for his immediate resignation to allow for more competent leadership.

He also criticized the Chief of Defence Staff, claiming he lacks the capacity to manage Nigeria’s growing security threats.

The cleric argued that poor leadership at the top level is worsening the nation’s vulnerability to terrorist and criminal attacks.

He directly appealed to President Bola Tinubu, urging him to take more decisive and proactive steps in tackling insecurity.

Ayodele warned that if Tinubu does not act swiftly, the crisis could jeopardize his political future and second-term ambitions.

He emphasized that the president must engage all relevant security stakeholders in a coordinated and nationwide effort to restore order.

Only comprehensive collaboration between military, police, intelligence agencies, and regional authorities can effectively address the worsening situation, he insisted.

The cleric expressed concern that some states are approaching a state of emergency due to unrelenting violence and unrest.

He mentioned states such as Benue, Abuja, Ondo, Adamawa, Kogi, Yobe, Plateau, and Bauchi as major insecurity hotspots.

Ayodele warned that insecurity could displace sitting governors and render state governments powerless in managing local affairs.

“Insecurity can vacate state governors from their positions,” he said, calling for immediate and decisive security interventions.

He added, “We need very active service chiefs to curb this crisis and bring peace to these troubled regions.”

Primate Ayodele concluded by urging national unity and firm leadership to restore peace, protect lives, and stabilize Nigeria’s democracy.
