#Gateway Games: Cycling federation suspends Edo coach over unruly conduct

The Cycling Federation of Nigeria (CFN) has suspended Edo State cycling coach, Jackson Iyobosa Edobor, from further participation in the ongoing 22nd National Sports Festival, tagged Gateway Games, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
According to a suspension letter signed by the CFN Secretary General, Mr. Joel Akinluwa, Coach Edobor is barred from attending any cycling competition or visiting the cycling venue with immediate effect.
The disciplinary action stems from what the federation described as “unacceptable behavior” exhibited by Edobor during the cycling event on May 21, 2025.
The coach was accused of threatening to kill one of the invited Commissaires, Mr. Osaretin Emuze, and alleging that he manipulated the outcome of the Male Team Pursuit race.
The CFN condemned the incident, stating that such conduct not only brought disrepute to the coach and his team but also threatened the integrity of the competition.
“The behavior not only brought shame to your team but also compromised the integrity of the event,” the letter stated.
As a condition for the possible lifting of the suspension, the federation has demanded a formal apology from Coach Edobor.
He is expected to submit a written letter of apology to the CFN within 48 hours, acknowledging his misconduct and assuring that such behavior will not be repeated.
Failure to comply within the stipulated time may lead to further disciplinary action, the federation warned.
