Political earthquake in Akwa Ibom: Umo Eno leads entire PDP structure to APC
DDM News

Former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Umana Okon Umana, has spoken on Governor Umo Eno’s recent political transition.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that he described the move as more than a defection, calling it a major political realignment in Akwa Ibom State.
Umana said the shift involved not just Governor Eno but the entire political structure of the PDP in the state.
He emphasized that House of Assembly members moved alongside the governor to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
All local government council chairpersons also made the switch with Governor Eno, according to the former minister.
Umana revealed that the two PDP-elected senators from the state equally joined the APC with the governor.
Members of the House of Representatives also aligned with the governor in what he termed a “movement.”
He stated this during an interview aired by Arise Television, describing the action as historic.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that Umana dismissed claims that the governor was pressured into leaving the PDP.
He maintained that Governor Eno’s decision was voluntary and motivated by political clarity and moral conviction.
The former minister recalled that the governor had earlier shown admiration for President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.
He said Governor Eno had even offered to support Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign.
According to Umana, the governor believed it would be morally wrong to support the APC while remaining in the PDP.
He said Governor Eno chose to act with integrity and realigned with the APC in full transparency.
Umana also cited the ongoing internal crisis in the PDP as a significant factor in the governor’s decision.
He noted that the PDP’s unresolved conflicts and leadership struggles made the party unstable for forward-thinking leadership.
“Governor Eno saw no viable path forward within the PDP,” Umana stated during the interview.
He explained that the move was in the best interest of the people of Akwa Ibom State.
The development marks a significant shift in Akwa Ibom politics, which has long been dominated by the PDP.
Political observers say the APC is now strategically placed to strengthen its presence in the South-South zone.
Umana said the governor acted freely and based his decision on national interest, not political pressure.
Governor Umo Eno is yet to officially address the public on the political development.
However, sources close to the government say he may speak in the coming days.
Meanwhile, APC leaders have welcomed the move, calling it a win for unity and national development.
The entire state awaits Governor Eno’s public remarks as political momentum continues to build across Akwa Ibom.
