Chelsea have completed the signing of striker Liam Delap from Ipswich Town in a deal worth £30 million.

The 22-year-old England Under-21 international has signed a six-year contract with the Premier League club, Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports.

Chelsea beat competition from Manchester United, Newcastle, and Everton to secure his signature.

Delap impressed in his debut Premier League season, scoring 12 goals in 37 games for relegated Ipswich.

Ipswich will receive £20 million upfront and retain a sell-on clause as part of the transfer agreement.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) understands Chelsea view Delap as a long-term investment.

Delap expressed excitement about the move, calling Chelsea an incredible place for his development.

“I hope to achieve amazing things and help the club win more trophies,” Delap said after completing the move.

Uncertainty surrounds Delap’s immediate availability ahead of this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup.

Chelsea reportedly want him included in the squad for the tournament.

However, he is also being considered for England’s Under-21 European Championship squad.

A final decision will follow discussions between club officials, the FA, and the player himself.

Delap reunites with new Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca, who coached him during their time at Manchester City.

That connection reportedly played a key role in the striker’s decision to join Chelsea.

The club’s Champions League qualification also influenced his choice over other Premier League offers.

Delap already boasts 120 senior appearances from loan spells with Stoke, Preston, Hull, and his season at Ipswich.

He left Manchester City in search of regular football, which he found during a strong campaign at Ipswich.

His performances caught the attention of top-flight clubs, ultimately leading to Chelsea’s move.

Known for his work rate and physical style, Delap is seen as a modern yet traditional number nine.

He has also been prolific for England at youth level, scoring 14 goals across various age categories.

Former youth coach Ian Foster praised Delap’s mentality and determination.

“He’s a bit of a throwback, he’ll give you everything and excite the Chelsea fans,” Foster.

Foster added that Delap has the potential to score goals at the highest level.

At Chelsea, he is expected to compete with Nicolas Jackson for a starting spot in attack.

Jackson scored 10 league goals last season and remains a key part of Maresca’s plans.

Delap’s arrival intensifies competition and adds needed depth to Chelsea’s front line.

The club sees him as a vital part of their future under the new manager.

As Chelsea prepare for a busy summer, the signing signals a clear commitment to developing young talent.

Delap joins a growing list of promising players brought in to shape the club’s next era of success.
