Iran, Israel exchange hypersonic strikes amid rising tensions

Iran escalated hostilities with Israel by launching hypersonic missiles at Tel Aviv early Wednesday. Consequently, this attack intensifies fears of a widening regional conflict. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility, labeling it the “11th wave” of Operation Honest Promise 3. Moreover, Iranian state media reported that the strikes caused panic, with the IRGC boasting they “repeatedly shook shelters.”

Hypersonic missiles, which exceed five times the speed of sound, evade traditional defenses due to mid-flight maneuvers. Additionally, Iran deployed drone swarms, though Israel intercepted two over the Dead Sea. Meanwhile, Israel retaliated with airstrikes on Tehran, targeting weapons factories and nuclear facilities. International backlash followed swiftly. For instance, France’s Macron urged diplomacy, while Turkey’s Erdogan condemned Netanyahu as a regional threat.

Nuclear Facilities Targeted

Israel’s strikes damaged Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, including the Natanz enrichment site. The IAEA confirmed direct hits, raising proliferation concerns. Israel, suspected of possessing 90 warheads, insists its strikes prevent Iranian nuclear development.
