Nollywood actor and politician Femi Branch is facing growing public backlash following allegations of physical assault on a film set and a long-standing unpaid debt.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that the controversies have triggered widespread conversations within the Nigerian entertainment industry, with many calling for accountability from prominent figures like Branch.

The scandal escalated after a statement went viral online accusing Branch of slapping a first assistant director during a film shoot on June 18, 2025.

According to the crew’s official statement, the incident happened in the presence of several witnesses, leading to tensions on set.

“During production, Femi Branch physically assaulted the first Assistant Director,” the statement read.

“He slapped the crew member, violating professional boundaries and basic human respect.”

The statement added that Branch later issued an apology under pressure.

Filming resumed under the same assistant director, and the crew publicly commended themselves for rejecting violence and maintaining dignity in the workplace.

A video that trended on social media showed a visibly angry Branch attempting to leave the set but being restrained by the crew.

In the footage, he accused the director of setting him up for public embarrassment.

Simultaneously, a user identified as Pastor Timilehin posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), alleging that Branch had defaulted on a ₦1 million loan borrowed from his father, Mr. Tolulope Komolafe, in 2011. The loan allegedly came with a ₦50,000 monthly interest and has now accumulated to ₦9.7 million.

“You have refused to pay to date,” Timilehin wrote. “Now that things are working for you, you’ve ignored the man who helped you. If my dad can’t get his money, I will, even from your children.”

Timilehin also shared a document allegedly written by Branch in December 2011, requesting the loan to finance his film Onile.

When contacted by Sunday Scoop, the actor declined to speak on the matter. “Please, I do not want to comment,” Branch said. “I would appreciate it if you could respect that.”

As of the time of this report, Femi Branch has not made any official public statement regarding the assault or the debt allegation.
