Tinubu launches scholarship program for Caribbean students to study in Nigeria

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has announced a scholarship program for students from the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) to study in Nigeria.
The program, set to begin in the next academic year, aims to deepen people-to-people ties and expand collaboration in education, trade, and development.
The program is part of a broader cooperation framework between Nigeria and the OECS.
Tinubu revealed plans to introduce visa waivers for holders of diplomatic and official passports from OECS countries.
A joint implementation committee will oversee the rollout of the scholarship program and finalize modalities.
Priorities include enhancing air connectivity, trade, tourism, and people-to-people exchange.
Saint Lucia’s Prime Minister, Philip Pierre, welcomed the initiative, calling it a “timely and practical show of solidarity.”
Pierre expects students to begin their studies in Nigeria in the next academic year, with visa facilitation a key agenda item for the Nigeria-OECS Joint Committee.
