I’ll contest 2027 presidential election — Obi

Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the last election, has assured his supporters that he will contest the 2027 presidential election and that he will not do more than one term in office.
Obi disclosed this in a statement issued by his spokesman, Ibrahim Umar, on Monday in Abuja.
He pledged to serve only one term, leaving office by May 28, 2031, if elected.
Obi denied joining discussions on joint tickets, prioritizing Nigeria’s rescue over political agreements.
He stressed that security, education, poverty eradication, and corruption-fighting will be his top priority.
Obi also pledged to bring stability to Nigeria within two years in office.
He expressed support for power rotation between North and South, citing his experience in Anambra State.
Obi promised to ensure a strong opposition in party politics and prevent defections.
Also in the statement, the former governor of Anambra State acknowledged his involvement in coalition talks, attributing it to his desire to rescue Nigeria from the drift.
“I have not joined in any form of discussion on joint tickets, including with Atiku.
“If there is any form of agreement that will restrict me to four years in office, I will comply with the agreement and be ready to leave the office by 28th May, 2031.
“If the coalition is not about stopping the killings in Benue, Zamfara, how to revive our economy, how to make our industries productive, how to put food on the tables of Nigerians, count me out,” he said.
Obi pledged to bring stability to the country within two years in office.
On the situation within the Labour Party, Obi said they were re working round the clock to get INEC to endorse the Nenadi Usman-led leadership based on the Supreme Court judgment.
