DDM NEWS
Imo State Transport Company (ITC) workers are hailing Governor Hope Uzodinma over a significant pay rise, marking the first substantial salary increase in over 13 years.
The new salary structure, which took effect with the June 2025 payment, has brought considerable joy to the workers.
Some workers who previously earned as low as ₦9,000 now earn between ₦50,000 and ₦60,000, depending on their positions.
A supervisor in the operations department, Mrs. Roseline Onyeanuna, saw her salary jump from ₦41,000 to ₦59,000.
Mr. Amarachukwu Odu, Head of Courier and Logistics, had his salary nearly doubled from ₦30,000 to almost ₦60,000.
Workers expressed gratitude to Governor Uzodinma and ITC General Manager, Hon. Uche Obiozor, for transforming the state-owned transport company.
Ticketing officer Mrs. Ijeoma Edeh described the salary increase as “a miracle” she and her colleagues had been waiting for, fighting back tears of joy.
The pay rise is part of Governor Uzodinma’s efforts to improve the welfare of workers in Imo State.
This development aligns with his administration’s reward system approach, aimed at motivating workers and enhancing productivity.
Workers of the Imo State Transport Company, have heaved sigh of relief following the upward review of their monthly salaries.
The workers said they were astonished when their June salaries hit their respective bank accounts with reasonable increments to their salaries.
Investigation by our correspondent over the weekend showed that the increment was a general package to all duly employed staff of ITC.
Expressing their gratitude, some of the workers who spoke with newsmen, explained that, since their enrollments as Staff of the ITC, they had neither received a salary increase nor bagged any promotion.
These were made possible by the leadership of Chief Uche Obiozor, who according to them changed the narratives for the wellbeing of the ITC workforce and the growth of the establishment.
They also eulogized the Governor for his exemplary and people oriented governance in the state, pointing out that if not for his vision, he wouldn’t have appointed Obiozor to ITC to sanitize the system.
Theworkers hinted that the increment would go at length in ameliorating the current hardship that had currently engulfed the citizenry.
Mrs. Ijeoma Edeh, a staff in ticketing department, disclosed that when she came to ITC in 2012, she was paid only nine thousand naira (₦9,000) as a salary.
Until 2024 when Obiozor was appointed GM, her salary rose to twenty-three thousand naira (₦23,000), and now in June 2025, it moved to fifty-one thousand naira (₦51,000).
“This report is for the general public my journalist you can interview others to know whether I am lying. We are happy with the latest development. May God bless Governor Uzodimma and Obiozor”, Edeh stated.
The Head of Courier/logistics department of ITC, Mr. Amarachukwu Odu confessed, “Since I was employed in ITC as a Staff, I have not experienced this type of salary increase because before now, I used to earn thirty thousand naira (₦30,000), but now, it is close to sixty thousand naira”.
He therefore prayed, “May God protect and guide the General Manager”.
Lending her voice, a supervisor in the operations department, Mrs. Roseline Onyeanuna enthused, “It is not a rumor, it is real.
I earned forty-one thousand naira (₦41,000) before now, but with the increment, I now earn fifty-nine thousand naira (₦59,000). It is really a thing of joy for us at ITC”.
Another Staff, Mrs. Abiaziem Juliet was full of thanks as she went memory lane in recalling the poor welfare of staff.
According to her, it was a new dawn in ITC and its workers under UcheObiozor’s watch.
