Trump Issues a Stark Warning to BRICS Allies–Here’s Why

Published

President Donald Trump has issued a strong warning to countries aligning with the BRICS bloc, vowing to impose an additional 10% tariff on any nation that supports what he called “anti-American” policies.

Trump made the announcement on Sunday through his Truth Social platform, stating:

Donald Trump has issued a fresh trade warning targeting countries that support the BRICS bloc’s anti-American agenda.

Trump made this announcement on Sunday, July 6, 2026 via his Truth Social, vowing to impose an additional 10% tariff on all nations aligning with BRICS policies.

He wrote, “Any country aligning with Anti-American BRICS policies will be charged an ADDITIONAL 10% tariff. No exceptions.”

The warning follows a BRICS finance ministers’ summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, held over the weekend.

At the summit, BRICS members criticized U.S. tariff policies and accused Washington of economic protectionism and aggression.

The ministers condemned U.S. and Israeli military strikes on Iran, calling them “a violation of international law.”

BRICS, once comprising five nations, now includes Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.

The expanded BRICS bloc represents more than half of the world’s population and growing global economic influence.

Trump has long viewed BRICS as a threat to U.S. dominance in global finance and trade.

In 2024, Trump threatened 100% tariffs on BRICS countries proposing a new currency to rival the U.S. dollar.

That currency plan remains under discussion, but BRICS leaders continue to advocate financial independence from the West.

Indian Prime Minister Modi and South African President Ramaphosa attended the Rio summit in person.

China’s Premier Li Qiang represented Xi Jinping, while Russian President Putin joined the summit virtually.

Putin remains wanted by the International Criminal Court for alleged war crimes in Ukraine.

Trump’s tariff threat signals a hardline approach if he returns to the White House in 2025.

He aims to discourage alliances that challenge America’s trade dominance and economic security.

Analysts warn his policy could trigger major disruptions in global markets and supply chains.

If re-elected, Trump may reignite trade wars that defined his first presidential term.

The 2024 U.S. election could determine the future of America’s role in the global economy.

Trump’s message to BRICS-aligned nations is clear: side with America’s rivals, and pay the price.
