2027: ‘We Made Obi Obidient’ — Founders Fire Back

Obidient Movement founder Kennedy Iyere has stirred controversy with a bold claim that Peter Obi did not create the movement now tied to his name.
Iyere insists the Obidient Movement emerged from everyday Nigerians who wanted to fix the country.
According to him, they created the structure, raised the funds, and later adopted Obi as its face.
During an interview with ARISE NEWS on Friday, Iyere made it clear that Obi joined the train late. He said Obi became the symbol, not the founder.
“Peter Obi didn’t form the Obidient Movement,” Iyere said. “We formed, funded, and mobilized the movement, then handed it to him.”
Iyere described the platform as a citizen-led uprising against bad governance.
He said many groups had already started working for change before Obi defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Labour Party.
“Obi was still in PDP when we started calling him out to take the leadership role,” he noted. “Nigerians tired of the status quo created the foundation.”
He acknowledged that Obi’s name made the term “Obidient” catch on. Still, he stressed that the energy behind the movement was bigger than one man.
“The movement has moved beyond being just a political campaign. It has become fanatical,” he said. “There are many good Nigerians who can lead. It doesn’t have to be Obi.”
Iyere also said he no longer supports Obi as a presidential candidate. He believes the former governor already received the movement’s full backing in 2023.
“We gave him all the support we could. I won’t support him again. I have my reasons,” he said. “That’s my democratic right.”
Iyere criticized a new coalition claiming to speak for the Obidient Movement. He dismissed it as fake and disconnected from the original grassroots base.
“That coalition doesn’t reflect what we built,” he said. “It lacks the spirit and authenticity that powered the original idea.”
His remarks have reignited debates over the true ownership of the Obidient brand and raised new questions about who will steer the movement as Nigeria prepares for 2027.
With millions of followers still loyal to its ideals, the Obidient Movement remains a force. But its direction may depend on who controls its message going forward.
