Two police officers were killed on the spot, while three others were seriously injured.

This attack is not an isolated incident, as Imo State has been experiencing a series of attacks on security formations and personnel.

In April, gunmen invaded the Ehime Mbano Police Station in Okigwe South Local Government Area of Imo State, killing five officers and setting the police building ablaze.

Similarly, in March, unknown gunmen ambushed and killed two police operatives while they were on patrol duty in Okigwe Local Government Area.

Gunmen struck at Ohii Junction on the Owerri-Orlu Road, killing two policemen and two civilians.

Some attacks have been attributed to separatist groups, such as the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

Others may be motivated by criminal intent, such as robbery or extortion.

The Imo State Police Command has confirmed these incidents and is working to apprehend the perpetrators.

The Commissioner of Police has condemned the attacks and urged the public to cooperate with the police to bring the perpetrators to justice.
