Fear Grips Rapists as Iran Executes 3 Men in One Morning

Published

Iran executes three men for rape—a verdict that again places the country’s justice system under global scrutiny. Officials carried out the execution early Saturday, July 19, 2025, in Gorgan, a city in northern Iran.

The judiciary said the men raped three women. Heydar Asiabi, the region’s top judicial officer, confirmed the arrest followed swiftly after the incident.

Authorities executed the sentences at dawn inside Gorgan prison.

Iran often applies the death penalty for crimes like rape, drug trafficking, and murder.

Amnesty International and other watchdogs say Iran is the world’s second-highest executor after China.

Asiabi described the rapists as a gang. However, officials kept the names of both the victims and the convicts confidential.

They also withheld trial details, a move often criticized by rights groups for lacking transparency.

Executions in Iran usually happen at dawn. Most take place behind prison walls. But in some high-profile cases, Iran conducts public hangings.

Just last month, the regime hanged a man in public for raping and killing a girl. That act triggered outrage across Iran and from the international community.

Iran defends the death penalty as a deterrent. Officials argue it delivers justice in serious criminal cases.

Still, critics say many trials are unfair. Some convictions come from forced confessions. Others happen without proper legal defense.

Despite pressure from international bodies, Iran continues to execute offenders at a fast pace.

Rights groups, including Human Rights Watch, have called for legal reforms. But the government remains firm.

This latest case highlights Iran’s harsh policy on rape.

While many citizens support the crackdown, the lack of trial transparency remains a global concern.
