BREAKING: Dino Melaye Resigns from PDP

Dino Melaye, former senator and 2023 Kogi governorship candidate, has officially quit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He blamed the party for failing to rescue Nigeria from worsening political decay.

Dino's resignation letter.

Melaye submitted his resignation letter on July 30 to the PDP Chairman in Ward 1, Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu LGA, Kogi State.

He announced his immediate withdrawal from the PDP and all related activities.

“This decision is necessary,” Melaye wrote. “The party lacks the power to rescue Nigerians from destructive political forces.”

He said the PDP had lost its strength and direction. According to him, the party can no longer drive real change.

“After deep reflection, I can’t continue with this party,” Melaye said. “I won’t promote a vision I no longer believe.”

This move comes shortly after his ally, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, also dumped the PDP earlier this July.

Though Melaye hasn’t announced his next party, speculation continues to build around the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Both Melaye and Atiku are widely expected to join the ADC ahead of the 2027 elections.

Insiders say a major coalition is forming to challenge APC’s dominance.

Melaye, known for his fiery speeches and loyal base, may help strengthen that emerging alliance.

He has long criticized Nigeria’s leadership and championed reform across party lines.

With this exit, the PDP loses yet another influential voice.

So far, the party has not issued any response to his departure.

Observers believe this wave of defections could reshape opposition politics before 2027.

As the 2027 race draws closer, more realignments seem likely.

Melaye’s next political move could define that shift.
