2027: INEC Kicks Off Voter Registration Across Nigeria

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the resumption of its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise across Nigeria.
The initiative is scheduled to begin on August 25, 2025, as the country prepares for upcoming off-cycle elections and the 2027 general polls.
The announcement, made public on Friday, was widely circulated through INEC’s verified social media platforms.
The electoral body stated that the CVR process would follow a hybrid model, combining online pre-registration with physical data capturing at designated centers nationwide.
According to the commission’s statement titled “2025 Nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (#CVR)”, the schedule is as follows:
Online Pre-Registration
Website: www.cvr.inecnigeria.org
Start Date: August 18, 2025
In-Person Registration
Locations: All INEC Local Government Area Offices and other designated centers
Start Date: August 25, 2025
Time: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm (Monday to Friday)
INEC urged eligible Nigerians especially first-time voters and those who recently turned 18 to seize the opportunity to register.
Additionally, those who lost their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), wish to transfer polling units, or need to correct past registration errors will be able to update their records during the exercise.
This initiative is seen as a vital step toward improving electoral participation and transparency, especially following the controversies surrounding the 2023 general elections.
Meanwhile, the country has witnessed a wave of political realignments in recent weeks.
The newly formed African Democratic Alliance (ADA) coalition, led by political heavyweights such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Nasir El-Rufai, has stirred nationwide attention.
However, the coalition faces internal discord. Nafiu Bala, a former ADC gubernatorial candidate, rejected claims that he resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Bala declared himself the party’s acting chairman and criticized the opposition’s adoption of the ADC as a platform for 2027, calling it a violation of the party’s constitution.
A letter dated May 18, allegedly showing Bala’s resignation from the ADC’s National Working Committee, surfaced online.
But in a new statement issued on Friday, Bala described the document as “entirely false, deceptive, malicious, and fake.”
As political tensions rise, INEC’s renewed voter registration drive signals the beginning of what promises to be a heated lead-up to Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
