Obama vs Trump: US Probes 2016 Election Intel Scandal

Published

on

The United States Justice Department has launched a grand jury investigation into claims that former Obama administration officials manipulated intelligence about Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

This move comes after Attorney General Pam Bondi ordered federal prosecutors to dig into accusations that senior intelligence officers acted with political bias to undermine Donald Trump’s campaign.

According to a source familiar with the matter, Bondi directed a yet-to-be-named federal prosecutor to begin presenting evidence to a grand jury.

If the panel finds sufficient cause, it could recommend criminal charges against those involved.

This new probe adds fuel to an already polarizing national debate over the origins of the Russia investigation, which followed Trump throughout much of his presidency.

Last month, the Justice Department formed a specialized strike force to evaluate explosive claims made by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.

Gabbard, who previously served as a Democratic congresswoman, said she declassified key documents revealing what she called a “treasonous conspiracy” by Obama-era intelligence leaders.

She argued that these officials conspired to tilt public opinion against Trump by manipulating intelligence tied to Russia’s alleged election interference.

Although Democratic leaders have dismissed her allegations as politically driven and without merit, Republicans quickly rallied behind the claims.

Trump, in particular, embraced the development, using it to reignite his long-standing criticism of the Russia probe.

On his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump declared: “The TRUTH always wins out. This is great news.”

Meanwhile, the Department of Justice has declined to comment on reports that a grand jury has begun hearing evidence.

However, sources say Bondi’s personal involvement in the decision underscores the seriousness of the allegations.

Tensions escalated last month when Trump directly accused former President Barack Obama of committing “treason.”

He claimed Obama orchestrated a plot to link him to Russian operatives.

Yet, Trump offered no concrete evidence. An Obama spokesperson quickly fired back, calling the accusation “bizarre” and “a weak attempt at distraction.”

The controversy originally stemmed from a 2017 US intelligence report. That report concluded Russia tried to influence the election through cyberattacks, email hacks, and disinformation campaigns on social media.

Although it stated that Russia aimed to hurt Clinton’s chances and boost Trump’s, it also confirmed there was no clear evidence that Russia altered actual vote counts.

While Russia has consistently denied interfering in the US election, Gabbard’s claims and the new grand jury proceedings are sure to reignite fierce political debate.

Critics argue the probe distracts from more pressing national issues and rests on shaky legal ground.

However, supporters say it offers a long-overdue investigation into potential misconduct by intelligence insiders.

As the grand jury begins its work, many observers believe the outcome could shape how Americans view one of the most divisive chapters in recent political history.
