The Lagos State Government has warned home owners sinking boreholes in Lekki area of the state about the danger of drinking ‘shit water’.

The warning was given by the Permanent Secretary of the Office of Drainage Services and Water Resources in Lagos State, Mahmood Adegbite, during a recent stakeholders meeting.

Adegbite said the water table had been contaminated by the untreated water seeping into underground water.

He said this has rendered borehole water unsafe across Lekki.

He said all the residents who had sunk boreholes within the Lekki axis were “probably drinking what I will call ‘shit water.”

Adegbite called for urgent installation of waste water treatment plants in the area to sanitize the water they consume to avert disease outbreaks.

However, Adegbite said the government was committed to safeguarding the wellbeing of its citizens in all its ramifications.
