Police parades 21 suspects of kidnapping, armed robbery in Abia

Abia State Police Command paraded 21 suspected criminals for various criminal activities, including kidnapping, armed robbery and car snatching.

In order to curtail the incessant crime in the State, Abia Police Command yesterday, paraded 21 suspected criminals for various criminal activities, including kidnapping, armed robbery and car snatching.

Parading the suspects at the Command’s Headquarters, Bende Road, Umuahia, Abia State Police Commissioner, Mr. Leye Oyebade, explained that the suspects were arrested at different dates and locations in the state, last month. 

Oyebade said that one of the kidnap suspects, Kingsley Alozie, was arrested at Alaoji Ugwunagbo Council of the State “following a tip off in a forest under a canopy in an uncompleted building”.

According to him, Alozie was said to have been a member of the gang that “has kidnapped a good number of people and collected ransom”. 

Also paraded were three suspected armed robbers, John Ogbonna of 5 Udensi Street Ngwa Road, Aba, Godday Udo Adiade of Umuachara Alo and Onyekachi Onyegbule of Ariaria Aba.

They were said to “specialize in robbing the citizenry of their valuables”. 

Police said further that a Toyota Sienna car with registration number Lagos JJJ 860 XS was recovered from one Mba Eke of Ndiadu Ebem Ohafia.

According to the police, “information from control room Lagos, stated that the Sienna vehicle was stolen from the owner at gun point in Lagos State. 

Also, the police at Ohafia on 31/8/2016 arrested one Okechukwu Agu, one of the members of the gang and Nkwa Njoku, the buyer of another stolen Highlander jeep”. 

Some items recovered from the suspects included a locally made revolver with four live ammunitions.

It shall be noted, for a period of time armed robbery and other petty crimes and kidnapping, has been thriving in the state.
