Abuja herbalist who shot himself

A herbalist named Ismail Usman has shot himself while testing a homemade bulletproof charm in Abuja, on November 23.

According to report, the event took place at Kuchibuyi village in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Usman reportedly shot himself in the stomach, using a locally made gun, after fortifying himself with the charm he had prepared.

Unfortunately, he was seriously hurt because the charm was unable to keep him safe.

Reports revealed he suffered potential fatal injury.

The spokesperson for the FCT police command, Josephine Adeh, confirmed this in a statement on Saturday.

The statement revealed that a resident had called the police in distress on the occurrence.

According to her, Usman was rushed to Kubwa General Hospital by Byazhin Division officials immediately they got on the scene.

Adeh continued by saying that because of the extent of his injuries, he was later moved to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital, FCT, where medical professionals are putting in endless effort to preserve his life.

She said: “A distress call from Shandam Michael reported a shocking event involving Ismail Usman, a local herbalist known for his unconventional methods.

“In a misguided attempt to test the effectiveness of a self-made ‘bulletproof’ charm, Usman shot himself in the stomach with a shotgun.

“Unfortunately, the charm failed to protect him, resulting in life-threatening injuries.

“Officers from the Byazhin Division responded swiftly, arriving at the scene to find Usman in critical condition.

“He was quickly transported to Kubwa General Hospital for emergency treatment and later transferred to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital for further care.

“In the aftermath, police conducted a thorough search of Usman’s home, recovering the homemade gun and an array of charms used in his reckless experiment”, she added.

She said: “Investigations are ongoing, and Usman is expected to face charges for unlawful possession of firearms and attempted suicide under Section 231 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.

“Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Olatunji Disu, condemned the incident, highlighting the dangers associated with illegal firearms”, she stated.

Earlier in Abuja: Yahaya Bello showed up at High Court

Sequence of events has been unfolding since this week in Abuja.

This include the arrival of the former governor of Kogi State, Mr. Yahaya Bello, at the High Court, Abuja.

On Wednesday morning, Yahaya Bello, arrived the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) high court in Abuja to be arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Reports state that Bello was expected to face charges related to alleged fraud of N110 billion.

The former governor was finally taken into jail by EFCC agents on November 26.
apprehended on November 26 by EFCC agents.

Following several unsuccessful attempts to apprehend Bello, the commission designated him wanted in April.

In September, Bello accepted the invitation from the anti-graft agency alongside Usman Ododo, the governor of Kogi state.

Bello and Ododo were in the parking area of the EFCC office in Abuja.

However, he was not taken in that day.

The Abuja court of appeals ordered Bello to appear in person for arraignment on August 20.

Ola Olukoyede, the chairman of the EFCC, would later allege that Bello withdrew $720,000 from Kogi’s assets to pay for his child’s tuition in advance.

Bello was also charged with 16 counts of money fraud by the EFCC.

However, the former governor’s absence caused a delay in the arraignment.

EFCC charges against Yahaya

On September 25, the EFCC filed fraud charges in relation to the alleged misappropriation of N110 billion in government funds from Kogi State.

According to a number of accusations in the N110 billion fraud indictment, Yahaya bought homes for himself in affluent Abuja neighborhoods and one in Dubai using funds he allegedly embezzled from the state treasury.

The criminal commission claims that in 2021, the former governor used N100 million from the government’s funds to buy a house in 1160 Cadastral Zone C03, Gwarimpa II, Abuja.

He was also charged with using N950 million in state funds to buy himself a second home at 35 Danubi Street, Maitama, Abuja, in 2023.

Additionally, according to the EFCC, Yahaya bought another property on Justice Chukwudifu Oputa Street in Asokoro, Abuja, in 2020 using N920 million that belonged to the state.

To buy a house for himself at Block D, Manzini Street, Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, Bello was charged by the panel of embezzling N100 million from the Kogi State Government.

The EFCC is still attempting to arraign Yahaya Bello in a separate N80 billion money laundering case that is currently pending before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
