ABUJA: parents suits NDLEA for 2billion Naira

Di parents wey dey mourn dia two-year-old pikin, Ivan Omhonria, wey dem shoot and kill, and him younger brother, Eromonsele, wey get serious injury, don on October 16, 2024, demand N2 billion as compensation from di National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

According to di Punch News October 16, dis tragic mata happen for Delta State last year, for Thursday, 13 July, 2023.

Eromonsele wey dem bin shoot am for eye bin dey  one year old den by di NDLEA operatives.

Di family come appear before di House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions on Wednesday, dey seek justice and compensation for di loss and di bad health of dia surviving son.

Mr. Fidelis Omhonria, di papa of di boys, express deep frustration say di NDLEA don neglect di family since di mata happen over one year ago.

Him talk say him son health don dey worse because of di no-good medical treatment.

Di family lawyer, Mr. Mathew Edaghese, talk say dem don petition di House afta di NDLEA no respond to dia demand for N2 billion as compensation.

During di hearing, Mr. Omhonria deny say dem get any agreement wit di NDLEA for N25 million.

Di settlement, talk say di Agency no gree take full responsibility for di tragedy.

But Mrs. Muniat Adeleye, wey dey represent di NDLEA wey dey serve as Assistant Director of Prosecution and Legal Services, claim say dem don reach agreement wit di family for N25 million, wey go dey pay in five monthly tranches.

She add say dem don already pay N5 million as first payment.

Mrs. Adeleye show surprise for di petition, insist say di mata don already dey resolve wit di parents.

But wen dem ask am to provide signed copy of di agreement, Adeleye admit say dem no get formal document wey dem bin don sign, dis one come vex di committee.

Di Committee Chairman, Mr. Mike Etaba, com demand say NDLEA Chairman Brigadier General Buba Marwa (rtd) go appear in person for di next hearing, wey dem set for October 22, 2024, to address di Committee directly.

“I hope you sabi di seriousness of wetin we dey talk. Di whole world dey watch us,” Etaba talk.

“Di NDLEA head suppose appear in person to explain wetin dem don do to help dis family recover from di trauma.”

“Look dat pikin wey get one eye. No parent suppose see dia pikin suffer like dis.”

Di Lawyer Mr. Omhonria also talk how di NDLEA Chairman talk say him don personally send am N5 million afta him express regret over di incident.

But him emphasize say dis one na personal gesture and no be formal compensation agreement.

“I shock wen I hear about dis supposed agreement,” Omhonria talk.“

“I no be party to any such agreement.”

Di NDLEA Chairman call me afta di incident, apologize, and send N5 million for my son care.

But no amount don mention, and no agreement for N25 million.”

Edaghese, di family lawyer, criticize di NDLEA handling of di case.
