ENUGU, Nigeria — The Zonal Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for Enugu North, Prince Kingsley Acharabagu, has congratulated Mr. Kenneth Okonkwo on his appointment as the official spokesperson for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s 2027 presidential campaign, describing the development as a clear statement of the ADC’s resolve to surround its candidate with men of proven competence and integrity.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, Acharabagu expressed confidence that Okonkwo’s vast experience and articulate voice would greatly strengthen the party’s message and momentum as the 2027 elections approach. He described the appointment as not only a personal victory for Okonkwo but also a strategic move that would enhance the party’s capacity to communicate its vision to Nigerians.
However, Acharabagu also used the opportunity to speak directly to the ADC presidential candidate and the national leadership of the party, urging them to ensure that the South-East geopolitical zone is fully carried along in the campaign structure and in broader plans for the party’s victory in 2027. He stressed that the South-East has remained a loyal and strategic stronghold of the ADC, and that the people of the region have demonstrated unwavering commitment to the party’s ideals.
“I respectfully and urgently call on Alhaji Atiku to ensure that the South-East geopolitical zone is fully carried along in the campaign structure and in the broader plans for our impending victory in 2027. The South-East has remained a loyal and strategic stronghold of the ADC, and our people have demonstrated unwavering commitment to the party’s ideals. It is only fair and politically wise that our region is given a sense of belonging, equitable representation, and a clear stake in the government that will emerge after our victory,” Acharabagu said.
The ADC zonal chairman noted that he was not speaking as a critic but as a loyal party man and a son of the South-East who believes deeply in the ADC project. He emphasised that the people of the South-East are ready to work, mobilise, and vote for Atiku in 2027, but that deliberate efforts must be made to integrate their interests, aspirations, and voices into the campaign’s core agenda.
Acharabagu expressed encouragement by recent conversations within the party regarding South-East inclusion and urged the leadership to take concrete steps to build on that dialogue. He cautioned against waiting until after the election to remember the South-East, urging the leadership to carry the region along from the very beginning.
He reaffirmed his total commitment to the ADC and to the victory of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in 2027, expressing confidence that with unity, fairness, and strategic inclusion, the party would triumph and deliver the good governance that Nigerians desperately crave.
The appointment of Kenneth Okonkwo as spokesperson for Atiku’s campaign has been widely welcomed by party members, who see it as a positive step towards building a strong and effective campaign team. However, Acharabagu’s call for South-East inclusion has highlighted the need for the party to ensure that all regions are adequately represented in the campaign structure.
As the 2027 elections approach, the ADC leadership is expected to address the concerns raised by Acharabagu and other stakeholders to ensure that the party presents a united and inclusive front. For now, the ADC continues to build momentum towards its goal of winning the presidency and delivering good governance to Nigerians.
