Adeleke distributes tractors and farm inputs to local farmers

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State distributed 31 tractors and additional farm inputs to local farmers in Aisu town, Ede, On August 30, 2024, as part of a new initiative to boost agriculture.

Speaking at the distribution,Gov. Adeleke affirmed his administration’s commitment to enhancing agricultural production and ensuring food security.

He promised continued support through infrastructure and resources to support the state’s farming community.

He stated:

“Today, we are distributing 6,000 herbicides, 80,000 cashew seedlings, 8,000 cassava cuttings, 8,000 various vegetable seeds.

“We are also distributing 500 bags of lime to our farmers, women associations, people living with disabilities and government schools with large farmlands.

“We are equally unveiling 31 newly purchased tractors with full implements for the use of our farmers in the state. which is the first phase of this project.

“These tractors will be released to farmers cooperative societies and associations after all necessary administrative procedures have been concluded.

“This is also in line with the promise made to our resourceful youthful population during the last End Bad Governance protest.”

Gov. Adeleke also announced an N8 billion investment in tractors and farm equipment, ensuring all purchases follow due process.

Additionally, he revealed a N2 billion allocation for farm input support.

In his remarks, Adeleke highlighted the progress made by his administration in under two years.

He noted that it has effectively addressed every aspect of the 5-Point Action Plan introduced at the start of his tenure.

Gov. Adeleke ‘s 5-point action plan

Gov. Adeleke’s 5-Point Action Plan is a comprehensive development framework aimed at addressing key areas in Osun State to promote economic growth, social well-being, and sustainable development.

The plan covers the following five major areas:

Agriculture:

Focus on modernization and expansion: The plan focuses on modernizing agriculture in Osun State to make it more productive and profitable.

This includes the distribution of tractors, farm inputs like seeds, herbicides, and fertilizers, as well as
promoting mechanized farming.

Youth involvement: The administration has launched initiatives like the Osun Young Agropreneurs Incubation Programme.

This program aims to engage young people in agriculture by providing resources such as land, equipment, and training.

Each local government in the state must allocate at least 1,000 hectares of land for this purpose.

Infrastructure development:

Improving connectivity: The plan focuses on developing critical infrastructure, especially roads and bridges, to improve connectivity between rural and urban areas.

This is crucial for facilitating the transportation of agricultural produce to markets, thus supporting the agricultural sector.

Focus on rural development: The administration recognizes that rural areas are key to agricultural success and economic diversification.

Therefore, improving infrastructure in these areas is central to the plan .

Health care:

Strengthening health services: Adeleke’s plan includes efforts to improve healthcare services across the state.

This includes upgrading healthcare facilities, providing more resources, and ensuring accessible health services, especially in underserved areas.

Education:

Enhancing educational standards: The plan aims to boost education quality in Osun State through investments in school infrastructure, teacher training, and student welfare.

This includes the provision of scholarships and learning materials to support students at all educational levels.

Security:

Ensuring public safety: The administration aims to enhance state security by strengthening local outfits and collaborating with federal agencies.

This includes initiatives to tackle youth unemployment, linked to insecurity, by creating jobs and engaging youth in agriculture.
