AFCON 2023 awards: Ekong, Nigeria’s captain emerge tournament’s MVP

Despite the loss, yesterday at the 2023 CAF African Cup of Nations finals for Nigeria’s Super Eagles, the team’s captain, William Troost Ekong, emerge as the tournament’s most valuable player.

Nigeria lost to host nation, Cote d’Ivoire on Sunday.

The Ivorians won 2-1 against Nigeria, courtesy of goals from Franck Kessie and Sebastien Haller helped The Elephants clinch their third AFCON trophy.

Mostafa Mohamed – Egypt (4 goals)

William Troost-Ekong – Nigeria

Best Young Player award
Simon Adingra – Ivory Coast

Best Coach award
Emerse Faé – Ivory Coast
