National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has revealed that activist Aisha Yesufu was offered a House of Representatives ticket by the party but declined the opportunity.
Dickson made the disclosure during a stakeholders’ meeting of the party in Abuja amid ongoing tensions and internal disagreements within the NDC.
According to him, the offer was jointly made by the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and the party leadership, but Yesufu chose not to contest for elective office.
“Do you know that Peter Obi and I offered Aisha Yesufu a House of Representatives ticket in the FCT, but she turned it down?” Dickson told party members.
He added that despite the fierce competition for legislative seats across the country, Yesufu was not interested in pursuing the position.
“People are struggling to secure House of Representatives tickets, but she said she was too big for it,” he said.
Dickson’s comments come against the backdrop of recent disagreements within the party, including criticisms from some supporters and stakeholders over the conduct of its primaries and internal affairs.
Earlier, Yesufu had appeared to take a swipe at Dickson, writing on her verified X account that the former Bayelsa governor seemed to be “fighting a war no one is waging against him.”
The activist, a prominent supporter of Peter Obi and a vocal advocate for political reforms, has yet to publicly respond to Dickson’s latest remarks.
The NDC leadership has in recent days sought to downplay reports of a crisis within the party, insisting that disagreements are normal in a growing political movement and are being addressed through internal mechanisms.
