Godswill Akpabio United Football Club established
In a move aimed at promoting grassroots football and youth development, a new football club, Godswill Akpabio United Football Club, has been established in Akwa Ibom State.
Senator Godswill Akpabio is the President of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Registered with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and affiliated with the Akwa Ibom State Football Association, Diaspora Digital Media understands that the team is set to participate in the 2024/2025 Nigerian National League (NNL).
According to the General Manager, Mr. Kufre Inima (Kokoty), the club’s primary objectives are to unite Akwa Ibom youths and showcase hidden talents nationally and internationally.
Inima expressed the club’s commitment to working in synergy with the State Football Association, stating, “our target is to qualify for the NPFL next season.”
Chairman of the State FA, Mr. Samuel Umoh, commended the club’s management for identifying with the State FA.
He encouraged the team officials to register quality players, promising support for all affiliated teams to ensure their success.

Akpabio’s investment in sports infrastructure, grassroots football, and youth empowerment programs has transformed the lives of countless young people in his home State and Nigeria.
The Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, which hosted the 2014 African Athletics Championships, is a world-class facility which has not only boosted the state’s economy but also provided a platform for athletes to showcase their talents.
The sporting complex was constructed during his tenure as Governor of Akwa Ibom State.
The establishment of Godswill Akpabio United Football Club, pundits say, further demonstrates his dedication to sports development, offering a platform for young players to compete at the national level.
